The Summer Nurse Extern program is a unique 12-week learning experience that runs from mid-May to early August and is open to nursing students. You are given the opportunity to further develop your knowledge and skills while working directly with a RN mentor on an clinical unit. The program involves direct patient care, off-unit experiences, networking and mentoring. Externs are also given the opportunity to apply for nursing scholarships.
To apply, you must be:
- Currently enrolled in a program leading to a degree that qualifies you for licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Completed and passed a fundamentals of nursing course and at least one patient care clinical rotation.
- Preferably entering your senior year
Nurse extern applications are accepted January to early February each year.
