Two St. John Health System hospitals, Providence Hospital and St. John Hospital Macomb-Oakland, are ranked as top 100 hospitals in the United States for heart care, according to an independent national study conducted by Thomson Reuters, a healthcare information company.
Providence is the only hospital in Michigan to be recognized in the category of Teaching Hospitals with Cardiovascular Residency Programs. This is the 9th consecutive year that Providence has been named to the list, making it the only hospital in southeast Michigan to receive this recognition nine years in a row.
St. John Macomb-Oakland is ranked as one of the top Teaching Hospitals without Cardiovascular Residency Programs. This is the first time that SJMOH has been ranked.
The study examined the performance of 971 hospitals by analyzing outcomes for patients with heart failure and heart attacks and for those who received coronary bypass surgery or percutaneous cardiovascular interventions such as angioplasties.
