Professional Liability InsuranceResidents are covered under St. John Hospital and Medical Center's professional liability program for any actions during the scope and course of their training as residents despite when the claim is filed. Professional liability coverage is provided through Michigan Assurance Group Ltd. Long-Term Disability InsuranceSt. John Hospital provides long-term coverage in the amount of $1,500 per month, payable after 90 days of disability to age 65. The basic program is available on a guaranteed-issue basis, and optional features are available to increase the benefit, and/or add a cost of living rider. The coverage elected as a resident can be continued after leaving St. John through a guaranteed conversion option. Resident Health Care BenefitsResidents can tailor their health care benefits to suit their needs. Benefits include major medical, dental, optical and more. Health care options include: St. John Smart Plan & St. John Smart Plan PPO. Coverage is provided for eligible dependents. Residents and their eligible dependents are covered by a prescription drug program that requires a co-payment. Eligible dependents are also covered in the Dental Care Plan at no extra charge. Your dental insurance is provided through Allmerica Insurance Company. Vision/Optical insurance is not a covered benefit. You may elect the option for vision insurance that will be an out of pocket cost to you. For new residents, a sample enrollment form and benefit packet will be sent to you in May for your review. Please bring this material with you to the New Resident Orientation. There will be a representative from our Benefits Department to answer any questions you may have. Please report to the Human Resources Department with any additionl/deletion of a child or spouse to a resident’s health and dental insurance. This must be done within thirty (30) days from the date of birth, marriage, divorce, death, etc. You will need to provide documentation such as birth certificate or marriage license in order to process these changes. For current and returning residents, the month of November is an Open Enrollment period for your health and dental insurance. During this time, you may make record changes (additions/deletions) that were previously not done within thirty (30) days of the original event. You may also switch health insurance providers during this period. Any changes made during Open Enrollment become effective the following January 1st. Sponsored dependents (i.e. parents) that were claimed as dependents on your income tax return in the previous year may be enrolled on your health insurance. You will need to provide documentation that the dependents you wish to enroll were claimed on your income tax. VacationResidents are eligible for three weeks of vacation per contract year. All vacation time must be approved in advance by your Program Director. Vacation time does not accumulate. Miscellaneous Benefits
