Alzheimer’s is a disease that causes changes in areas of the brain that control memory and reasoning. Why the disease develops is not yet fully understood. At present, it has no cure. But proper care can help most people with Alzheimer’s live a comfortable life for many years. St. John Health offers assisted living and nursing homes that can help Alzheimer's sufferers and their families cope with the disease. We also offer support groups for Alzheimer's patients and their families.

The full moon has been blamed for bringing on epileptic seizures, but researchers say that's not true. In a study published in 2004 in the journal Epilepsy and Behavior, researchers found that epileptic seizures were more common during the moon's last quarter, although they did not know why. Seizures not associated with epilepsy -- those with psychological causes or brought on by stress -- did seem to be more common during a full moon.
