The provision of therapy services enables people to make the most of life -- physically, mentally, and socially. A variety of services are offered to individuals experiencing a wide range of conditions. Therapy enhances the independent function of individuals so they can participate in daily activities. Mastery of these skills allows them to resume roles within their family, community and workplace.
Who Needs Rehabilitation Services?
Individuals who may require rehabilitation services are of any age and may have conditions such as arthritis, stroke, joint replacements, impairments from fractures, trauma injuries, spinal pain, neurologic conditions and balance disorders, communication disorders and cognitive impairments. Provisions can also be made for fitness evaluations, wellness consultations and various educational programs.
Occupational Therapy
St. John Occupational Therapy (OT) utilizes activities that improve individuals' skills and adapt the environment to allow individuals to achieve greater levels of independence. The goal is to return people to the "occupation" of living. Occupational Therapists and Assistants work toward the individuals' full recovery. When this is not possible, OT's will instruct the individuals, families, and caregivers in compensation techniques and the use of adaptive devices such as modified clothing, eating devices, and toileting aides.
It is sometimes difficult to make the transition from hospital to home after illness or injury. To ease the transition, the our rehabilitation team works with patients to become as functional and independent as possible. We focus on maximizing abilities and maintaining dignity.
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program at St. John River District Hospital offers a complete range of restorative and fitness services, which are individually designed to meet the needs of the total person. Therapists work with the patient and their family to design a specific treatment plan based upon present functional level and agreed upon goals. Our intent is for the patient to return to an appropriate functional level and independent activity.

Where We’re Located
The Rehabilitation Services Department is located on the south side of St. John River District Hospital, along the South Hospital Drive entrance. Free parking is available. The entrance is designated with a blue-awning-covered walkway, near the rear of the hospital building.
