St. John Hospital and Medical Center regularly receives honors for its commitment to clinical excellence, medical staff expertise and overall quality. Below are several recent examples of recognition received:
- Top 100 hospitals for overall performance – For the second consecutive year, in 2007 St. John Hospital and Medical Center has received the Solucient Top 100 Hospitals National Benchmarks for Success award, which recognizes hospitals for their overall performance. The award marks the second time in as many years that the hospital has been recognized as one of the top 15 major teaching hospitals in the country.
- One of the nation’s best in research in continuing education – In 2007, St. John Hospital and Medical Center was voted as one of the top 10 institutions in the country for its advances in continuing research education, its second such recognition
- Organ Donation Medal of Honor – In Fall 2007, the United States Department of Health and Human Services awarded St. John Hospital and Medical Center the Organ Donation Medal of Honor for achieving outstanding organ donation rates, in conjunction with Gift of Life Michigan.
- In 2007, St. John Hospital and Medical Center was named a national Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital for heart care by Thomson (formerly Solucient), which conducted an independent national study. This is the fifth time the hospital has received this annual award since 1999.
- Cardiac Center of Excellence – St. John Hospital and Medical Center remains a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiac Center of Excellence.
- Governor’s Award – In Fall 2007, Michigan’s Quality Improvement Organization (MPRO) awarded St. John Hospital and Medical Center the Governor’s Award and Governor’s Recognition of Excellence for the hospital’s commitment to improve surgical care safety.
- Resident programs excel – St. John Hospital and Medical Center residents regularly receive honors from their professional associations, with many taking first place in oral and poster presentations. They also regularly achieve outstanding marks on board examinations.
- One of the best from U. S. News & World Report – In mid-2007, St. John Hospital and Medical Center was recognized for excellence on the prestigious U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best Hospitals” list, ranking 49th in the Neurology & Neurosurgery category.
- In Fall 2007, HOUR Detroit named numerous St. John Hospital and Medical Center physicians to its Top Docs list. In addition to individual physician honors, the hospital was ranked as the number one stroke program in metro Detroit. St. John Hospital and Medical Center also ranked in the top five of many other programs, including: accident/trauma, alcohol and drug abuse, back pain, cancer, cataract surgery, childbirth, emergency, genetic testing, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, mental illness, pediatrics and physical rehabilitation.
- Volunteers lead by example – Volunteers at St. John Hospital and Medical Center are regularly honored. Some 2007 awards include those from National Philanthropy Day, Thanks for Giving and the Claude Pepper Award.
- SCIP-6 Collaborative commitment to quality – In mid-20070, the Surgical Care Improvement Program Collaborative (SCIP-6) recently honored St. John Hospital and Medical Center for its “commitment to quality.” SCIP-6 is led by Medicare-designated quality improvement organizations that share resources and expertise to define best practices to improve surgical care safety.
