The SPY Intra-Operative Imaging System is the first and only fluorescent imaging system approved by the FDA. It provides immediate images to verify that blood is flowing properly through newly created vessels, avoiding the need for repeat surgeries and reducing complications. Providence Hosptial neurosurgeon, Dr. Mick Perez Cruet, performs surgey with an experimental device called OptiMesh. It's a small flexible mesh bag that is filled with bone graft material for the repair of damaged discs in patients with degenerative disc disease. This minimally invasive treatment is an alternative to procedures that use bone cement or more invasive surgeries that require metal implants for stabilization. Footage length: 32 seconds.
