Epilepsy Center

Epilepsy is a general name for various types of seizures that occur when abnormal electrical activity in the brain causes an involuntary change in body movement, function, sensation, awareness or behavior. Epileps affects approximately 2.5 million Americans.

At our Epilepsy Centers, we help adult and pediatric patients control and sometimes prevent seizures using a combination of treatments.

  • Medications: Based on a comprehensive assessment of the nature, type and severity of the disorder, epilepsy treatment through Antiepileptic drugs are the most common way to control seizures.
  • Surgery: In cases where medication is not effective, we offer offers a surgical option called Vagus Nerve Stimulation that involves the implant of an electrical device in the shoulder to periodically stimulate a cranial nerve, which helps to prevent the reoccurrence of seizures.
