Our partners in the community

A successful Emergency Center is dependent on so many others outside the department walls. From our donors, construction team, and pre-hospital partners, learn more about those partners that contribute to our success below:

  • Donors. The St. John Guild received the naming rights for the Emergency Center, which is officially known as the St. John Guild Emergency Center. In addition, numerous physician and physician groups contributed financially to the project. Learn more about the Guild’s donation, and other donors by clicking here.

  • Pre-hospital partners. Approximately 20,000 patients are brought by ambulance to our Emergency Center. The relationship between the hospital and emergency services personnel is invaluable. Pre-hospital partners are the life-saving link between a patient’s home or other location…and the hospital (click here to learn more about how we prepare for your ambulance arrival). Our staff also has trained many of these individuals in 12-lead EKG technology, which allows them to wirelessly transmit a patient’s EKG to a cardiologist, expediting the patients treatment when they arrive so they can get right to a cath lab. Learn more the 12-lead EKG program by clicking here.

  • Construction team. Harley Ellis Devereaux served as the construction manager for the Emergency Center renovation, as well as the addition of the Van Elslander Pavilion, which opened in 2007 and includes a new main entrance for the hospital, more than 144 private patient rooms, consolidated outpatient services, the W. Warren Shelden Heart and Circulatory Center, Diagnostic Imaging Center, and a beautiful new dining area. Click here to learn more about the construction process.

  • Physicians. The Emergency Center is dependent on the family practice, internal medicine, and specialists that refer their patients to us for care.

  • Government agencies and professional organizations. The Emergency Center works with the Department of Homeland Security, government municipalities, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Surgeons, Wayne County Health Authority, Region 2 South Bioterrorism Network, Medical Control Zones for Wayne and Macomb County, and others to ensure that we share knowledge and learn from others, maintain strict quality standards, and work together to provide security for the community.

  • Urgent Care locations and Federally Qualified Health Centers. St. John Health (SJH) operates four urgent care locations in the city of Detroit and others in metro Detroit (see below). In addition, we work with several Federally Qualified Health Centers in Detroit, which provide a medical home for those patients with limited finances or who lack insurance.
    • Riverview Urgent Care. 7733 E. Jefferson, east of Grand Boulevard, 313-499-4900.
    • Samaritan Urgent Care. 5575 Conner, east of I-94, 313-924-0000.
    • Saratoga Urgent Care, 15000 Gratiot, Suite 100, south of Eight Mile, 313-527-4000 (affiliated with SJH)
    • Conner Creek Urgent Care, 4777 E. Outer Drive, east of Van Dyke, 313-369-5690.
    • Eastside Pediatrics, 21000 E. 12 Mile Rd., St. Clair Shores, 586-498-3600.
    • After Hours Medical Care – 21000 E. 12 Mile Rd., St. Clair Shores, 586-447-5130.
