Osteopathic Neurosurgery Program - Application

After personal interview, candidates are ranked through the ERAS System. All candidates that are matched will receive a formal resident agreement for signature.  Residents are encouraged to accept a surgery directed intern position at Providence prior to the first year in Neurosurgery. This is coordinated with Bruce Kaplan, DO, Director of Transition Year.

Application and Related Information
The Neurosurgery Residency Program participates in a match program.  Applications must be submitted thru ERAS.

Candidate Requirements
  The applicant shall have graduated from an approved college of osteopathic medicine.

•  The Providence Hospital Neurosurgery Residency is a linked program. The candidates are required to complete the one-year surgically-directed internship at Providence Hospital which is approved by the Board of Trustees of the AOA.

•  Applicants for the residency in neurological surgery must obtain a license to practice osteopathic medicine in the State of Michigan from the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery before the end of their OGME 2 year.  The resident must remain a member in good standing of the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons and the AOA.

•  The applicant must be thoroughly grounded in the code of ethics of the AOA, which shall be a guide to him/her in the practice of neurological surgery.

Dean’s Letter from the Osteopathic College of Medicine attending

•  Internship Letter from the Director of Medical Education of the Training Hospital (if applicable)

•  Minimum of Three (3) Physician References from staff members at the hospital where the applicant interned or rotated as a student.

•  Medical School Transcripts

•  National Board Scores (Parts I, II and III)
