The 8,000 square foot Research Facility houses several sections, including an operating room, a Clinical Trials Office with an exam room; expanded laboratory space for cell culture and for the Immunotherapy Program; a large basic science laboratory; a redesigned microvascular teaching laboratory with space for up to four teaching microscopes; a temporal bone laboratory with 12 modules and video connection to patient operating rooms. The patient care reserch department is staffed by a Ph.D. Director, and twelve full-time research staff members.
The Research Facility significantly enhances research and scholarly activities of the residents and teaching faculty. A monthly cadaver course consisting of Cranial Approaches and Neuroanatomy Review as well as Spinal Instrumentation is required of all neurosurgical residents. There are also visiting surgeons that provide lectures/courses for various neurosurgical procedures.
