Career Profiles: Patient Representative

What do they do?

  • Work in hospitals, nursing homes, other long-term care facilities and in public health agencies.
  • Address the special needs and concerns of patients and their families.
  • Evaluate patient satisfaction, investigate complaints, collect information about patient dissatisfaction.
  • Work with departments to resolve patient problems.

Education/Training

  • Challenging high school courses, including business, science, math and English.
  • Requirements vary, but most employers prefer college graduates with background in health or social services.
  • Experience or course work in conflict resolution can be helpful.

Salary

  • Average range $20,000 to $40,000.
