Career Profiles: Health Educator

What do they do?

  • Work in hospitals, schools, community organizations, businesses, government agencies, or as independent consultants.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate educational programs and strategies designed to improve the health of individuals, families and communities.
  • Assess health training needs.
  • Publish health education materials, information papers and grant proposals.
  • Develop health education curriculum.
  • Teach health in public and private schools.

Education/Training

  • College prep courses in high school.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in health education.
  • To be certified or licensed to teach health in public schools requires a master’s degree and, in many states, successful completion of a written exam. 

Salary

  • Averages $20,000 to $35,000
